The Orion XS 12/12-70A is the highest-current 12V model in Victron's Orion XS range. It charges a service battery from a vehicle's or boat's alternator and starter battery in a 12V system, and can also run as a fixed-voltage DC power supply.
Key features
- Smart alternator compatible: built-in engine shutdown detection means it only draws power while the alternator is charging, with no extra sensor. An external engine-running signal can also be used.
- Adaptive four-stage charging: bulk, absorption, float and storage, with eight battery presets and fully programmable settings for lead-acid and lithium batteries.
- Adjustable current: input and output current limits set from 1A to 70A, to protect the alternator.
- Emergency reverse charge: started from the VictronConnect app, it charges a flat starter battery from the service battery at up to 35A.
- Protection: overload, short-circuit and over-temperature protection, low-temperature charge cut-off for lithium, and input voltage lock-out to protect the starter battery. Not protected against reverse battery polarity.
- Monitoring: built-in Bluetooth for the VictronConnect app, VE.Direct port for a GX device and VRM (including DVCC), and VE.Smart Networking for remote voltage, temperature and current sensing.
- Parallel operation: an unlimited number of Orion XS units can be connected in parallel for more charge current.
- Remote on/off via switch, signal or BMS allow-to-charge contact.
Installation note: unlike the Orion XS 12/12-50A, the 70A model uses fan cooling. Its internal electronics are sealed to IP65, but the unit overall is rated IP20 and is not waterproof, so mount it in a dry, ventilated location.
